MUSIC & ARTS

Music at St. Paul Lutheran School
Student Life

Music

Music is not an add-on at St. Paul. It's woven into school life from the very first year, and it grows with each student all the way through eighth grade. From general music in kindergarten to competitive choral festivals in middle school, our program gives every child a meaningful relationship with music.

Mr. Greg Paul, Minister of Music
Our Music Director

Meet Mr. Greg Paul

St. Paul's music program is led by Minister of Music Mr. Greg Paul, one of the school's most beloved and accomplished educators. Mr. Paul began his studies at Concordia University in Ann Arbor before completing his Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in church music at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. He earned his Master's in Organ Performance from Wayne State University in 2003.

Mr. Paul serves both St. Paul Church and School, playing the organ for worship, directing multiple choirs and ensembles, and teaching science in the middle school. His depth of musical knowledge and genuine love for his students make St. Paul's music program something families remember long after graduation.

Our Music Programs

Every student at St. Paul participates in music — and for those who want to go further, there are opportunities to do exactly that.

General Music

Kindergarten through Grade 4

Every student in kindergarten through fourth grade participates in general music class once a week. These early years lay the foundation for musical literacy, ear training, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Students learn to listen, respond to, and engage with music in ways that enrich every other area of their education.

St. Paul School Choir

All Students

All students participate in the St. Paul School Choir, which practices twice weekly during the school day. The choir performs at church worship services and community events throughout the school year, giving students regular opportunities to share their musical gifts with the broader St. Paul community.

It's one of the most visible and beloved traditions at the school, and a highlight of the year for families and congregation members alike.

Band

Grades 5 and Up

Starting in grade 5, students can choose to deepen their musical involvement by joining the St. Paul Beginning Band, also directed by Mr. Paul. As skills develop, students may advance to the St. Paul Advanced Band. Both ensembles perform at worship services and at an annual spring concert, giving students real performance experience in front of a warm and supportive audience.

Handbell Choir

During School Day

The Handbell Choir is an ensemble open to interested students that meets during the school day. The group rehearses and performs at worship services and special occasions throughout the year. It's a unique and joyful way for students to contribute to the life of the church and school community through music.

Select Choir

After School — Auditioned

The Select Choir is an auditioned after-school ensemble for students who want to take their vocal musicianship further. With an emphasis on music reading, part singing, and choral technique, Select Choir members have the opportunity to participate in choral festivals and develop skills that carry well beyond their years at St. Paul.

Hear It for Yourself

The best way to experience St. Paul's music program is to visit on a day when the choir is rehearsing or the band is playing. We'd love to show you what our students are capable of.
