Kindergarten

Kindergarten is one of the biggest milestones in a child's life. At St. Paul Lutheran School, it's also one of the most personal. Your child won't just start school here. They'll join a community that knows them by name from day one.

A Strong Start in a Small, Caring Classroom

St. Paul's kindergarten is led by Mrs. Miranda Lorence, a Baker College-trained educator who describes the most inspiring part of her work as getting "to impact the lives of children and mold the foundation of their education." The foundation built in kindergarten shapes everything that comes after.

With small class sizes averaging 10 to 12 students, Mrs. Lorence has the time and space to truly know each child — how they learn, what excites them, where they need extra encouragement. Individual attention here isn't a promise. It's the reality of how the classroom actually works.

What Kindergarteners Learn at St. Paul

St. Paul's kindergarten curriculum meets all Michigan state requirements across every subject area. Learning is hands-on, age-appropriate, and delivered within a Christian atmosphere where faith, curiosity, and academic growth go hand in hand.

  • Religion: Bible stories, prayer, worship, and an introduction to God's love and grace
  • Language Arts: Phonics, reading foundations, handwriting, spelling, and oral communication
  • Mathematics: Number concepts, counting, basic geometry, measurement, and patterns
  • Science: Hands-on exploration of the natural world and foundational STEM concepts
  • Social Studies: Family, community, and an introduction to the wider world
  • Fine Arts: General music with Mr. Greg Paul, art, and participation in the St. Paul School Choir
  • Physical Education: Movement, coordination, and foundational fitness skills
  • Spanish: Spanish is offered to students as an additional language opportunity.

Faith From the Very First Day

At St. Paul, kindergarten isn't just where children learn to read and count. It's where they begin to understand who they are in relation to God and the people around them. Faith is part of the daily rhythm here: in morning prayers, in Bible stories, in the way teachers speak to and care for each child.

Children who grow up understanding God's love carry that confidence into every area of their lives.

Extended Care for Working Families

St. Paul's extended care program means the school day can flex to fit your family's schedule. Morning care begins at 7:00 AM and after-school care runs until 6:00 PM. Drop-off and pickup are simple, and your child is always in a safe, familiar, faith-filled environment.

Ready for First Grade and Beyond

A St. Paul kindergartener leaves the year with more than academic skills. They leave with confidence, a love of learning, and a sense of belonging in a community that will continue to support them through eighth grade. The transition to first grade is smooth and natural — teachers know your child, friendships are established, and the school is already home.
